The Role of Oral History in Post Apartheid South Africa

Second Annual National Oral History Conference

Conferences Sub-themes:

Memory and Reconciliation / The Legacy of Apartheid / Oral History in Schools / Oral History in Community Organisations / Gender perspectives in Oral History / The Ethics of Oral History / Oral Traditions and Oral Performance in Contemporary South Africa

Proposals are invited for contributions to the 2nd National Oral History Conference. Academic papers and case study reports are welcome. The contributions must be based on original work and have a clear focus on oral history.

If you are interested, please send us a short proposal including:

  1. an abstract of your paper or case study report (100 - 300 words)

  2. the relevant conference sub-theme

  3. a short biography of yourself (50 - 100 words)

  4. your contact information (name and surname, affiliation, postal address, e-mail address, phone and fax numbers).

The time for presentations will not exceed twenty minutes and will be followed by ten minutes for questions and discussion.

It is our intention to publish refereed conference proceedings. The papers should not be longer than 5000 words.

Deadline for proposals: July 15, 2005

The Interim Steering Committee will confirm acceptance or rejection of your proposal by September 1, 2005

Invitation to the 2nd Annual National Oral History Conference 18 – 21 October 2005, Pretoria.

The national Archives and Records Service Organisation Committee has the pleasure of inviting you to the 2nd Annual National Oral History Conference that will take place from the 18th – 21st October 2005 in Gauteng.

Accommodation details are hereby attached. You are expected to provide for your traveling and accommodation expenses. Transport from Johannesburg Airport to the Hotel will be made available for everyone.

Details of the conference venue and the programme will be sent to you in due course.
